Sabarni Chatterjee

Deputy Director, OTT

Dr. Sabarni Chatterjee recently re-joined OTT as the Deputy Director. Sabarni comes to OTT from NIAID’s Technology Transfer and Intellectual Property Office where he served as the Branch Chief of Branch B supervising technology transfer matters for NIAID’s intramural and extramural programs including the Vaccine Research Center and the Division of Clinical Research. Prior to that, Sabarni was in NCI’s Technology Transfer Center, where he served as a Unit Supervisor from 2019-2022 and a Sr. Technology Transfer Manager from 2015-2019. Sabarni started his NIH technology transfer career at OTT where he was a Licensing and Patenting Manager in the Cancer Branch. Sabarni has a diverse and extensive technology transfer background; he has worked in industry, patent law, and in multiple NIH tech transfer offices. Prior to coming to NIH, Sabarni conducted postdoctoral training in cancer biology at Harvard Medical School. Sabarni’s educational credentials include an M.B.A. from the Isenberg School of Business, University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and a Ph.D. in Biological Chemistry from the State University of New York at Binghamton, where he conducted research in the field of structure-activity relationships of novel anti-cancer compounds. Throughout, he has dedicated time in multiple areas benefitting the NIH TT community, including trans-NIH working groups, Federal Laboratory Consortium projects, serving as a faculty member at the FAES University, and more. He has also enjoyed mentoring junior colleagues and others seeking to learn more about technology transfer.
